The third encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI, Caritas in Veritate (CV), calls on all people of goodwill to practice charity in truth as "essential for building a good society and for true integral human development" (CV, no. 4). It is a challenge
for greater fraternity enlightened by truth in the "search for a satisfactory
solution to the grave socio-economic problems besetting humanity" (CV, no. 5).

In this regard, the University of Asia and the Pacific in its mission to "be
ever attentive and responsive to the real needs of the community that sustains
it" (cf. UA&P Credo) launches an Interdisciplinary Conference on the occasion
of the 1st anniversary of the Caritas in Veritate. The event aims to increase
understanding and cooperation across different academic fields in tackling the
challenges of Philippine development while adhering to Catholic Social Teaching.
